In February of 2017, my firm complied with a scale producer, plus they gave everyone free electronic scales which sync to your telephone and monitor your weight. When I stepped on that scale, it was the very first time I had weighed myself as 2005. I was amazed to find I weighed 240 pounds.

It had been hard for me to accept I was overweight up till there. I always made excuses for myself (the cam adds extra pounds! It is what I am wearing!) . But eventually seeing a few woke me up and left me decide it was time to change my lifestyle.

Around precisely the identical time, a coworker bet me $100 that she can lose more weight. I am incredibly aggressive, so this was just the motivation I had to start making healthy changes.

After exploring different diet programs, I found the Atkins plan. I cut out bread, pasta, rice, beans, chips, soda, and fruit juices since the diet plan promotes a lifestyle. Because I couldn’t have my go-to fast-food hamburger, I had to learn how to cook. I started meal prepping about the weekends so I could rely on grab-and-go meals throughout the week.

A standard day of eating on the Atkins diet consisted of eggs and bacon for breakfast, a slow cooker soup recipe packed with veggies and lean proteins such as lunch, also fresh recipe I would try for dinner (something like zucchini lasagna).

The Atkins site was extremely valuable for me during this time–there’s an entire section on unique recipes, and they all list out the web carbs.

There are a number of weeks which are more difficult than others. When things get hectic, I’d head out to eat, but I have found that places including Chipotle and Jimmy Johns talk about the nutrition info to their menu itemsso before I walk into the restaurant I already know how many carbs I am going to eat.

After two weeks, I was already down 10 pounds–and by the close of the month, I was down 20!

I never utilised to workout, so I started slow by walking through my lunch hour five days a week. Additionally, I obtained a Fitbit and made it my aim to achieve 15,000 steps every day.

A month into my weight loss journey, I began going to the gym four days per week, doing cardio to the elliptical to get 45 minutes along with still walking through my lunch breaks.

After six months of exercising and eating about the Atkins diet, then I was down 62 pounds! A year later, I am down 92 pounds.

That coworker who initially motivated me to start losing weight with the bet ended up leaving the business before our year-long challenge was upward. But when I noticed the scale start to proceed in a major way, I did not want the competition to keep me motivated.

Even losing 5 pounds looked like a success, and once I watched the scale go down, I never needed it to go back up. To stay on track, I weigh myself in the morning daily. Some days I am heavier, a few days I am lighter, but I am always happy if I am down at the close of the week, even if it’s only a pound. That’s 1 pound less than the week before!

Towards the end of my journey, I published my success story on the Atkins page–and obtained such amazing feedback subsequently. Obtaining calls or messages from other individuals who say I motivated them to start their weight loss journey is really fulfilling.

If you’re reading my story and think, “This couldn’t be me” or even “I do not understand where to start,” I am here to inform you that you simply can alter your lifestyle.

My number-one suggestion would be to question your mindset on food. A month to eating more nutritious meals, I felt fuller and also had better skin. I was finally feeding my body what it had.

You know those children who will eat three cheeseburgers a day and be rail-thin? That was not me. By a decade old, I was heavy, wearing a size 16. Growing up, I lived on food. My mom was one parent it was simply easier for her to pick something up than cook, particularly since she was working all of the time.

When I went to college in 2009, my eating-out habit just got worse. Each one of the deadlines made it hard to cook and let’s be fair, caring additionally took its toll. I was always down to a few 2 a.m. post-partying McDonald’s or Jack In The Box.

I never weighed myself however my junior year I noticed I had to buy bigger clothes. I would guess that I gained 35 pounds during college. After I graduated, I continued my poor habits (and gaining weight) until approximately five decades later. That’s when my life changed.
